Salesforce Certified Platform User Experience Designer

This exam covers designing user experience on the Salesforce Platform. It spans how to run research and requirements gathering, human-centered design, accessibility and inclusive design, and mobile design principles, and it also asks how far an experience can be built with declarative configuration alone and how to work with the Salesforce Lightning Design System. There are 60 questions and a 105-minute limit, the passing score is 65%, and there are no prerequisite certifications. Salesforce describes the target candidate as someone with at least six months of professional experience as a UX designer, engineer, administrator, or researcher, plus three to six months of UX design work specifically on Salesforce. The weightings tilt toward the platform: Declarative Design accounts for 27% and SLDS for 21%, so close to half the scored content sits on the Salesforce side rather than on design theory. Questions typically present a scenario and ask which method or which configuration fits. Keeping the credential requires an annual maintenance module, which means staying current with UI changes from each release after you pass.

Official page

Who takes it

  • Designers responsible for Salesforce screen and information architecture at end-user companies or partners
  • Salesforce administrators who design Lightning pages and flows
  • Business consultants and analysts who cover everything from requirements gathering through user testing
  • Developers who use SLDS to style custom components

What it lets you do

  • Lets you discuss UX methods (research, human-centered design, testing) and Salesforce standard functionality in the same terms
  • Roughly half the scored content is platform-side (Declarative Design 27%, SLDS 21%), so you systematically confront where design intent ends and standard functionality begins
  • Accessibility and inclusive design are explicitly in the objectives, so you can audit your own design standards against published criteria
  • The mandatory annual maintenance module means you keep tracking UI changes from each release even after you pass

How hard it is

The pass rate is not published by the exam body. The official exam guide states a passing score of 65%. The target candidate is described as having at least six months of UX experience plus three to six months of UX design work on Salesforce. Because Declarative Design (27%) and SLDS (21%) make up roughly half the scored content and test platform knowledge, design expertise alone tends not to be enough.

How long people study

Not published by the exam body. Salesforce publishes only recommended experience (six months or more of UX work, and three to six months of UX design on Salesforce) and gives no figure for study hours.

Questions people ask

Which is correct, "UX Designer" or "Platform User Experience Designer"?
Both the official exam guide and the Trailhead credential page are titled "Salesforce Certified Platform User Experience Designer". The credential page URL is still /credentials/userexperiencedesigner, and "User Experience (UX) Designer" appears alongside the formal name as a common shorthand.
Is this credential part of the February 2027 retirements?
No. It is not among the 24 credentials listed in the official 2027 Certification Retirements FAQ.
Which release is the exam aligned to?
The official exam guide states that it is aligned to the Winter '24 release (as of September 2026).
Can I take it without professional design experience?
There are no prerequisites, so you can sit the exam. That said, Salesforce describes the target candidate as having six months or more of UX experience, and most questions present a scenario and ask you to choose a method or a configuration.
What happens if I let it lapse after passing?
The credential expires if you do not complete the annual maintenance module by the deadline. Deadlines are listed on the Salesforce help page for maintenance badge due dates.
